Memorable Meals and Knitting Highlights

Where did the time go? One minute it was Thanksgiving then a few frenzied weeks of work and suddenly it was Christmas, then New Years, and here we are back to the routine of day-to-day life.

Welcome to 06! Some highlights from the past few weeks:

Food stuff, in no particular order:

Christmas turkey of course! Pretty simple meal since there were only four of us. Did the shopping at St. Lawrence Market on the Friday and stashed food at all the neighbour's freezers (see apple cake notes below) and worked our way through the provisions. No turkey incidents this year -- mother-in-law did not try to pierce the turkey breast during the last half hour of cooking so did not have to resort to defensive maneuvers.

Apple cake. The guy from Mystic Muffin was selling slabs of apple cakes for $9.99 again, a staggeringly good deal for a wonderful dessert or tea snack. Jon bought one for his work, I took half of one for my co-workers, full one for Rich, one for the house, one stashed in Carol's freezer and one in Tony's freezer. The one in Tony's freezer was supposed to be for New Years but we forgot to bring it to the cottage. Must remember to get it back. We're now going into the second week of January and we are still eating apple cake. Good thing we love the stuff.

Verveine. Had a wonderful meal with my visiting friend, Jacque. Great evening all around. Can't remember the details of the meal, but I remember being offered shots of port before dessert because they ran out of the lemon tart which I originally wanted.

Hanoi 3 Seasons. Had the La Vong (fish pieces on top of cold vermicelli noodles, shredded lettuce, mint, basil, and cilantro leaves topped with nuoc man) special again. Always awesome.

Cheese ball. Haven't made a cheese ball in a while and Christmas seemed like the right time. Decadent stuff. Must give Lynne the recipe.

Roast beef for New Years. Lynne made a wonderful roast dinner with potatoes and parsnips. I love a good roast.

Oysters. We bought two small cartons of oysters for New Years. We finished one at the cottage on New Years eve. Jon shucked the New Brunswick oysters and served it on a plate. Chased with Segura, it made for a wonderful snack! On January 1, we had more oysters for a starter with Carol and Peter at our house. Yumm.

Scarves, scarves and more scarves

Finished Jon's dad's scarf a week before Christmas and worked until 2 am to finish his mom's. Jon's scarf, sadly, was packed up unfinished, still with the needles, along with the promise to finish it before the end of the winter season. The funny thing was, on Christmas morning, Jon's dad opened up his present, stretched it out to try it on and what did I find but a whole smack dab in the middle of the work. Horrified, I grab it from him and looked at it. It looked like I had missed a stitch! I tried to save it but in end had to rip it back and start from the beginning. I don't know how some people can say they knit to relax...

Cable sweater for Elliot. Managed to finish Elliot's little sweater for Christmas but did not get a chance to stitch it up until this weekend. I hope it still fits him.

Droped off Baby Ruby's new outfit just before Christmas. I was pretty proud of that one. Little sweater with bonnet and booties. Can't wait to see a picture of her in the outfit.

I got yarn for Christmas!! More wonderful stuff to knit. I can't wait until I have more time.
